ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Thank you for visiting the website of Dinah Latham, author of Walking Forward,
Looking Back, available now!
The book tells the story of a retired district nurse and midwife reflecting on her life
whilst walking with her close companion Harriet, the dog. It is a touchingly honest
work written straight from the heart. The reader will both laugh and cry as the author
recounts many moving stories of patients cared for in 1960's London. Divorce and
single parenthood accompany her career journey, while living alone escorts her into
'Larkrise to Candleford' meets 'Call the Midwife'! This book is as delightful and
engrossing as both of these. Dinah's prose is eloquent and eminently readable - she is
a natural storyteller. The reader travels with her into the kaleidoscope of her memories. We trudge across muddy fields and wade through feet of snow with her as she struggles to reach isolated women in labour. We sit alongside her as she talks gently to a dying patient or listens to the small concerns of a lonely old woman.
I loved the way this book is structured, as it darts from present to past as the sights and sounds of her walks with the dog send Dinah down avenues of thought leading to various events and emotions throughout her life. It is unlike an other biography I have read and is so readable - I absolutely loved it.'
